The Office of 社区参与 (OCE) promotes the education of students through engaged citizenship, including participation in their communities and social responsibility. The programs and efforts made available through the OCE promote an atmosphere of learning and critical reflection by providing students opportunities for civic participation, volunteerism, awareness, advocacy, and community involvement. In doing so, the OCE supports collaboration between the College and the larger community for a mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. The OCE streamlines and strengthen these opportunities at 华盛顿＆amp; 杰斐逊 学院 for students, faculty, staff, and community representatives.
The Office of 社区参与 has a number of ways for students to get involved with their local community, with on-campus philanthropic and advocacy efforts all the way through extensive community-based field experience programs. At W&J, the OCE hopes to get students involved in their local communities through the beginning of their college experience through graduation.
Students have a chance to become engaged with service and volunteerism through pre-orientation programs, W&J Day of Service (as part of orientation), nine community service-based student organizations, the Community Outreach Team work-study positions, MLK Day of Service, Alternative Spring Breaks, and more. Although there are ways in which students can get involved with the community directly though the programs of the office, many students volunteer through their Greek organization, athletic team, or other student organization.
W&J students truly are responsible citizens, and are prepared to contribute substantially to the world in which they live!
